Do it for the children 🙂
Or do it for yourself

Hey music junkie,
How did you spend 888 aka Nane Nane? Was it on the misty Nairobi streets, on the busy online streets or in your house meditating like me?
Seriously, the manifestation energy was heavy over the weekend. That Lion's Gate Portal was not a joke. Intentions were set and visualizations were realized.
Also, what a fun weekend that was! Starting with The Mist party on Friday with DJ Mura and friends. I haven't seen so many people let loose like that since the last TCHNO event, lol.
But the highlight of the weekend was Sunday. Remember the Sankofa Storytelling for Children event from the previous newsletter? Well, it was for adults too because we had SO.MUCH.FUN.
From playing kati with the little ones to listening to fun African stories to singing simple songs together. Auntie Kulture and Nzilani entertained us with the stories whereas Cheif accompanied them on the guitar. Let me tell you, our inner children had never been happier!
Even Fancy Fingers made a cameo appearance at Our Wonderhouse. Not on the strings, but with his wonderful wife and son Sulwe.

Moral of the story: listen to your inner child
If you missed it, don't you worry. There will be another Sankofa event soon enough. Before then, here's where you can connect with other young hearts this week.
But first, a special shoutout for the children.
FEATURE OF THE WEEK
Fundraiser for MSJC Kids
You know Coco Em, right? After landing in Kenya from her summer tour in Europe, the beloved DJ has set up a fundraising campaign for children in Mathare.
These are not just any children but 10 talented dancers who've been invited to compete at Legeza Dance Battle in Eldoret. Led by their coach and Santuri SEMA alum Zagadat, they need funds for their transport, food and costumes. If you believe in supporting young stars to shine, let's help them get to Eldoret on 24th August.
EVENTS OF THE WEEK
Soul EP live performance + Q&A session
If you can remember, a while back I shared with you a brand new soulful EP which stole my heart. After introducing it to my friends and even singing one song at Sankofa Storytelling event, this is the next-best-thing.
This Wednesday, I'm super excited to host singer-songwriter Cheruu on Instagram Live. Not only will she share the background stories behind her debut EP but also perform some songs for us. Think of it as The Top 5 with LaMusicJunkie mini-comeback 🙂
Hadithi Hangout at Santuri Salon
Here's another cool event I'm hosting this week. After staring at Santuri's library filled with so many unexplored gems, my sister and I decided to change the narrative.
Welcome to Hadithi Hangout, where one by one we will unearth a new literary gem, read together and discuss it. For the introduction session, we’ll get to know each other, talk about our history with reading, and pick our first book together. If you're a secret book lover, this Thursday event is for you 📖
Ngemi: A Homecoming concert
Do you love yourself some cultural music, art and dance? Then Ngemi Homecoming is where you need to be this Saturday.
This special concert will feature our favourite urban Kikuyu musicians - Mûrîngi, Ayrosh, Nyawîra and more! And it’s happening at Clarett BBQ & Picnic Gardens, which is actually lush and green despite being inside a mall. Come ready to dance your stress away and reignite your African Spirit 💃🏾
That's it from me. See you live on Instagram for Cheruu's interview (or watch the replay if you can't make it). And make sure to catch the full moon energy from Sunday!
Until next time,
Stay high on music
