Have you ever healed through music?
Here's what I mean

Hey music junkie,
Have you ever experienced one week where you felt like the saddest human being? And then the next, you felt like you were on top of the world?
Me too.
My magical week was sparked on Thursday. After meeting a sistar and enjoying Nairobi Museum’s heavenly garden together, we separated at The Mall. Where I designed a revolutionary kanga with Adam Yawe then prepared my DJ set. After midnight, I took over the decks and played an Afrofusion/ soulful set for The Clearing’s one year anniversary. One person said it made them fall asleep. In a relaxing kind of way.
On Friday, I went to the studio to work on our TaaRnB track. And left early cause I didn't want to miss one Zahabu Sundowner set. And thankfully, I was right in time for Kichaka’s downtempo/ organic house set. Eyes closed, the music moved me like I was in a trance until I had to stand still and breathe deeply. For a moment, I felt like an angel with wings. Now this was healing ✨
Even though we were beat afterwards, Dvbliew and I decided to catch Geng Geng’s live performances. While Brainchild’s hiphop set was short and sweet, Arif made us dance to twisti ya Mist. And I learnt a whole gengetone choreography from SnSe.
Now Saturday was the big day. The grand finale. Despite a few winks of sleep, jaba juice powered me to reach The Beer District at 6. By 8pm, the show was ready to roll. And from the first song, Makadem and the Nyatiti Jazz Experience band made us dance to their hypnotic African music. Whether it was benga, rhumba, or nyatiti fusion, we couldn't stop ourselves from taking over the dancefloor 💃🏾
Truly Makadem ni Mganga Mkuu.

If that weekend sounds busy, you should see this one. Imagine hosting 3 events and deejaying at 2. Who's willing to supply the jaba, I'll make the juice 😁
EVENTS OF THE WEEK
Hadithi Hangout Chapter 7 at Santuri Salon
Because it's the last Thursday of the month, Hadithi Hangout is back! This time we're continuing our exploration of the big bad bands of Kenya's golden era aka the 70s and 80s. We'll also visit the iconic clubs they played at (think Starlight Club and Carnivore).
Did you know that many international record labels were based in Nairobi back then? Together we'll also read Shades of Benga to discover why they left - probably for good 😌
TCHNO Takeover at The Mist
Did you know techno music is healing? Before you say I'm crazy, hear me out. I experienced it at TCHNOversary two Saturdays ago, and I know I'm not the only one.
This Friday, we'll discuss how techno music can be therapeutic. Followed by a live techno set and dynamic DJ sets that might just change your mind about this underground music genre 😏
Je Suis Live Experience at The Mall rooftop
The first time I met him was at Kilele Summit 2025. Even though he was a volunteer, he jumped on the mic during the Plant Music session and jammed with our indoor plants - true story.
This Saturday, the young and fresh Congolese musician Freed Mushaga is launching his debut EP Je Suis (I am) at the stunning Mall rooftop. Immerse yourself in a fun fusion of soul, jazz and folk music live from Bukavu to Nairobi. Who knows, I night just emcee and DJ at this event 🙆🏾♀️
Amkia Afrika to the world at Cafe Amka
After grounding at Tala Kangundo back in December, we're bringing Africa to the world here in Nairobi! This Sunday, a group of young creatives will transform the elegant Cafe Amka into a living museum of African music, fashion, and visual art.
Admire enchanting art pieces, short films, and black beautiful models showcasing African ornaments and outfits. With soul-stirring music by Tanzanian band African Vibration, Luo queen Koko Koseso, and yours truly DJ Raha, you will definitely reconnect to your roots ✨
Told you it's a heavy one, right? Lemme know which event you'll be joining me for. So we can heal together 🙂
Until next time
Stay high on music
