Nobody can stop this reggae 😎
Not even the rain

Hey music junkie,
Do you love reggae like I do? If you do then you’re going to love this week’s newsletter. And if you don't, stick around…
My love affair with reggae was recently reignited in the best way. Last Friday, I attended the 3rd of edition of Kenyan Reggae Night at The Mist. And mahn had I missed it!
The previous edition two months ago was absolutely mindblowing, with strictly Kenyan reggae DJ sets and live performances by our very own musicians. There was even an MC to hype us on the dancefloor all night long.
This time Kenyan Reggae Night was bigger and better. I was dancing from the minute I got in to the minute I got out. You know it was a faya night when you leave the club at 6am with the guards, right?
I discovered so many Kenyan reggae tunes, and I want you to do too. That's why I wrote a skanking sweet review on Instagram for you. Usisikie FOMO sana 😛
In case you're wondering - why didn't you tell me about this Furaha? I would have come! The truth is I only found about the event that morning.
But don't you worry because there's another Kenyan reggae event coming back this Saturday. Somebody say Mo faya!
EVENT OF THE WEEK

Nairobi Dub Club
Yes family, our favourite dub music party is back! Since March 2023, we've been meeting every last Saturday of the month to heal thanks to dub aka the grandfather of reggae music. And to experience the legendary Jamaican sound system culture in Kenya.
If you haven't attended NDC yet, picture this. Dub DJs playing the heaviest bassiest jams on the mighty Umojah Sound System. And Kenyan MCs rapping and singing and freestyling on top of these massive beats igniting the rasta crowd.
This session is a special one because it falls on 11th May. Which happens to be the 43rd anniversary of the day the great Bob Marley made his transition (death is an illusion). So let's come together and feel alright, while celebrating the legend in style!
PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK

This is Kenyan Reggae Music
While we wait (not in vain though) for Saturday, here's an incredible playlist to keep you entertained. I've been curating this particular one for years now. And attending Kenyan Reggae Night always inspires to add more songs.
In case you're wondering what kind of reggae Kenyan musicians make, wonder no more. This collection will introduce you to it all, from the legends like Mighty King Kong to Shamir to Nazizi. All the way to the young and fresh reggae queens like Becky Muthoni, Nile Dawta, and Black Heart Ke.
Personally, I’m loving Mariah Ngoma’s reggae covers of some of our favourite rhumba songs. Like Amigo by Les Wanyika and Marina by Samba Mapangala. Rhumba reggae is the Kenyan fusion you never thought you needed until you hear it!
Okay, enough about reggae. But because nobody can stop it, May this week's event and playlist make you fall in love with reggae (again).
And as the sun shines again, remember to shine a light of love in someone whose life was affected by the floods. Give your clothes, give your food, give your time. Because that's what Bob Marley would do 🙂
Until next time
Stay high on music
