This is not about Kilifi...
Or is it? 🤔

Hey music junkie,
How are you feeling? Like really, ask yourself that question. And answer using a more descriptive word than “good”.
I'm currently typing this in a hospital reception at 10pm. Stories for other days, as Dr Mumbi would say. Do you know of her?
Anyway, I promised untold Kilifi adventures for this newsletter. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to go through all the videos in order to craft coastal storos for you. Kilifi will have to wait, because all good things take time.
On the other hand, I've been busy recovering from last weekend. And what a wild wild weekend it was. Santuri Showcase at The Mall parking lot made us whine our waists until we couldn't any more. Thanks GI Selects 🙌🏾
Meanwhile at the basement, TCHNO reminded us why techno music isn't just oontz. It's healing music. Oh, and we also learnt the difference between minimal and hard techno.
After all that sherehe on Furahiday, we slept then went to Sparrow's Creek Ecocamp. And had the most relaxing weekend in nature. And by we, I mean mean me and my ancestors 🙂
Because the vibes were so homely as always, our AfroLiberation Potluck extended all the way to Monday. Where our conscious community of Afreekans shared ancient wisdom, reggae music and tasty ital food with each other. We simply couldn't get enough of mawele rice!

P.S. Injera and shiro taste so much better when served in a calabash
And to crown our weekend getaway in Nkoroi, we went food foraging in someone's garden. We gathered blue berries that looked like guavas. And screamed our lungs out to the trees until we felt so much lighter. #stressreliefhack
Okay, enough about the past. Here are some cool things to look forward to these coming days. Let's go!
ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Negore by Odd Okoddo

Have you heard of Odd Okoddo? This Kenyan-German duo have performed all the way from Santuri Salon to Beneath the Baobabs Festival. And they've just released their second album.
Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to listen to the Afrofusion album at The Mist alongside ½ of Odd Okoddo. Negore (which means paraffin lamp in Dholuo) shines a light on Olith Ratego’s dodo storytelling and Sven Kacirek’s minimalist production. The result is the most unique Kenyan album you've listened to today.
EVENTS OF THE WEEK
Mizizi Sunset Sail in Kilifi

You know Saturday is June 1st right? To celebrate Madaraka weekend, Kilifi Now is hosting a series of incredible events in the magical hippie town we all love.
On Friday, sail on the majestic creek as you reconnect with the legendary spirit of Mekatilili wa Menza. Then on Saturday, discover how art and culture can become sustainable. Before dancing the night away to chakacha, brasso, taarab and bongo flava - mduara style!
Monateng @ Two Grapes
Si uni geii, kama rainbow… Does that lyric sound familiar to you?
The Monateng family of Kilifians DJ Miss Ray and Avocado.the.DJ have borrowed it for their next Afrohouse party in Nairobi. And this Saturday, they're inviting their favourite instrumentalists - Sisian, GG Sax, and Slique Noire to jam with them. If you've never heard this live Afrohouse fusion before, catch the vibe at Two Grapes Kilimani!
Whether you're going to be in Nairobi or Kilifi (or anywhere in between) enjoy your days there. Remember to breathe, do some yoga, and eat injera. Mkay?
Until next time,
Stay high on music
