This one is about Healing 🕊️

Just like Kethan's new EP

Hey music junkie,

Every time I sleep in a hospital I always learn something new. Last time was that nurses and doctors have difficult jobs, often working up to 24 hours shifts.

This time, I learnt I don't want to come back here.

Even with the security of knowing your insurance will pay all the bills, it's still uncomfortable. Being stuck inside a strange compound for days, not knowing when you'll be released. Having nothing to do but sleep, scroll on your phone, eat, and walk 100 metres and back. It's like a softer version of prison.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing the work of doctors or hospitals. But I do think they could be more condusive for health. Like having air-cleaning indoor plants to brighten everyone’s moods. A lush garden where patients can sit down and meditate. Fruit and vegetable juices instead of mandazi and sausage for breakfast in order to accelerate the body’s healing.

I could go on and on…

But anyway, I'm grateful we're finally out of the mini prison. And I can get back to work - and a little bit of play. Because Nairobi is a hotbed of events right now.

Also, I have some positive news. I finally did that thing of posting about Kilifi on Instagram. Check out this reel about my first experience at the brand new Baobab Studios in Kilifi. And if you're lucky, catch all the fun adventures on my stories.

Here's some more fun for you this June.

PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK

Music of the month - May

Every new month brings a new gift. And this one brings a collection of magical music gems released in May.

I love it when musicians get vulnerable and remind us they're also humans, and this playlist is a true reflection of that. From songs about fatherlessness to heartbreak to healing, you're bound to be touched. And maybe dance to a mugithi tune too?

EVENT OF THE WEEK

Whispers of Power

Speaking of healing, do you know Liboi? The Afrofusion queen whom I once interviewed on my podcast knows a thing or two about it. And that's why she decided to create a safe space for us through this unique event.

Whispers of Power is a multidisciplinary performance fusing live music by her, storytelling by Wakio Mzenge, and contemporary dance by Maulid Owino. Happening on Saturday at Sarakasi Dome in Ngara, this is probably the healing event you never knew you needed (plus it's free).

Don't fret, there are also plenty of light not-so-serious events happening in Nairobi. Like the Showcase Wednesday concert at Alliance Francaise and Steam Sessions featuring Waithaka Ent who's finally back in the country! You can catch more details on our Telegram channel, as always.

See you anywhere outside of a hospital :)

Until next time,
Stay high on music
