Can't stop humming this tune 🎶
And I don't want to...

Hey music junkie,
There's nothing too big for you to conquer. That's the song that's been on replay in my head since Saturday. All because of Elsy Wameyo’s epic show.
But yoh, that was only the beginning of one wild wild weekend. After watching and meeting Nilot G for the first time in person, we went straight to the afterparty. Geng Geng was a proper sherehe with XPRSO. serving us a hot dose of their old and new hits. The highlight of that night was singing #RutoMustGo to the sickest national anthem sample you've ever had.
But it was not over yet. The next day, The Sonic Mass exhibition at Munyu Space held what you'd call a Sunday service. And after a sleepless night, we showed up at midday to sing the two Kenyan national anthems, Lazizi and Malaika like a choir in sweet harmony. And we also created a music circle where we played indigenous instruments like drums, the kalimba, and even a cowbell.
For the afterparty, young upcoming DJs played different musical sets, that ranged from taarab to rock to Afrohouse. Personally, I rocked to the latter because Afrohouse just has that magic power of making you let loose and heal on the dancefloor. Or is it just me? 🤔
And for the afterparty after the afterparty, experimental Kenyan duo AirConditioner and composer Nyokabi Kariuki serenaded us at The Mist. I only caught Nyokabi’s set which was so immersive with those enchanting visuals and multilayered soundscapes. You would have been blown away!

Elsy with that “You are exactly who you think you are” face
It was great to see some of you over the weekend - shout out to Afrikan who was both at Elsy’s and Nyokabi’s shows. And if you missed the former, no worries. I reviewed Nilot G’s first ever live show in Nairobi. Cause it was that legendary!
And now as we approach the end of October, I have some goodies for you from all over Afrika. And of course a fun lineup of exciting events happening in Nairobi this weekend. Let's go!

EVENTS OF THE WEEK
TCHNO Takeover at The Mist
If it's the fourth Friday of the month, you know it's TCHNO Takeover time. Which is honestly one of the most healing music nights you will experience in Nairobi.
This Friday, the night will begin with a panel discussion all about “Empowering Women in Techno” featuring a Norwegian DJ from Uganda (strange, right). Followed by an experimental live production set and diverse DJ sets where the healing takes place. If you've never experienced TCHNO, come with an open mind and heart.
Fair Fashion Festival at Embe Creatives
Have you heard of fast fashion vs sustainable fashion? For the first Fair Fashion Festival in Nairobi, you'll get to learn the difference and discover what we wear is deeper than how it looks.
Expect engaging panel discussions, a mending and upcycling workshop, and even a clothswap where you get to exchange clothes rather than buy new ones. The last time I attended a cloth swap, I walked away with my beloved mustard crotchet top! And yes, this Saturday event is free!
Shorts, Shorts and Shots At Shalom House
Speaking of fashion, Shorts Shorts and Shots is back! Aka the funky event where you wear Shorts, watch Short films and drink Shots (hopefully they have jaba too).
The theme for this Sunday edition is Afrofuturism, from the fashion to the films. And this is part of the NBO Film Festival which has been going on since last weekend and is ending on Monday. So this is your last chance to catch this African magic live in cinema.
Told you I'd bring many goodies, right? Also I'm truly grateful for you reading my emails and sharing your feedback with me, it means a lot! And if you love these newsletters, feel free to share a gratitude gift here 🙂
Until next time,
Stay high on music
