This is The Kenyan Way 😎

Of experiencing art in Nairobi

Hey music junkie,

How are you feeling today? Better than a week ago? I truly hope so.

If there's one thing I've learnt in the past few days, it's acceptance. Accepting the pain, the joy, the struggle. Accepting whatever is happening in your life as if you chose it.

I know, it’s difficult to accept some situations when they cause you so much discomfort and distress. Like physical sickness, financial instability or even disappointment from a lover.

But with anything in life, there's always a reason behind it. And our job is to find out the why. Once you do, the weight on your shoulders becomes much lighter.

Just think about one thing in your life you're not happy about. Then choose to accept it. And ask it to teach you what it's meant to show you.

Best case scenario: you'll experience more peace in your life.

In other news, here’s a beautiful painting I came across during Shifting Tides. That's the group art exhibition which opened on Saturday at Kobo Trust, 523 Riara Road. I not only interacted with incredible art but also met the artists who created it. What a treat that was!

We experienced so many styles, from collage artwork by Tizzita to watercolour paintings by Joyce to pieces made from waste plastic by Nzilani. My favourite was a painting that was so realistic it looked like an actual photo!

If you missed the opening day, you can still catch all the amazing art until 5th October. That's two weeks away. I promise, it's worth the visit.

And if you're looking for more music this week, here's where to find it!

INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK

IG Live with Nduta Notes

Are you familiar with Nduta Notes? Here's a little background: She performed at the second Spotlight Sessions at Santuri Salon on June 2023. And a year later, dropped her debut EP Kusema Kweli.

On Sunday night, I had the honour of interviewing her in preparation for her performance at Sunday Acoustic Soul Session. We talked about her soulful EP, what to expect from the all-female show, and she even performed one of her most-popular songs!

EVENTS OF THE WEEK

Folk Fusion

It's that time of the year again for some Folk Fusion magic! Which is probably the coolest contemporary folk event in the world (according to their bio).

This particular lineup looks pretty sweet, featuring the legendary Eric Wainana and Winyo, fiery Sarabi Band and Apesi, soulful Nyawîra Siren and Njerae, and of course Ayrosh the superstar. As always, DJ Mura and Ally Fresh will keep us on our dancing feet throughout the show. What better way to spend your Saturday!

Jungle Culture: The Kenyan Way

And for the Saturday afterparty, all roads lead to The Mall rooftop. Where Jungle Culture will be holding another mad drum & bass party headlined by UK-based Kenyan artist Degs.

If you've been to any Jungle Culture event, you know how Kenyan DJs like Sir Loin, [MONRHEA], One Down, Balter Sensei and Moo Zert always bring the house down. And MCs like Kare, Branco and Raphimus fire up the crowd with their sizzling rhymes and lines. This will definitely a bass party for the music history books.

This week, remember to accept where you are, learn from it and move on. And of course make time to have fun, whether it’s by yourself or with your favourite people. See you soon on the dancefloor!

Until next time,
Stay high on music
