The secret to happiness is...

I think I cracked it

Hey music junkie,

Last week I experienced a major breakthrough. It was so profound I have to share with you. But first, here's what happened on the event streets

On Thursday evening, The Mall was buzzing with youngins as always. Everyone was heading to Ndung'u Mbithi’s exhibition opening at Munyu Space. I visited it later when the place had quietened down and got to talk to Mbithi. Titled Between the Bars, it majorly featured paintings, drawings and a giant installation of chairs. Which he said symbolized suicide, reflecting a part of his life. Not to worry, he’s in a better place now.

On Friday evening while other youngins took over Zahabu Sundowner at the rooftop, we stayed at the basement. Juliebrenda’s EP listening session transformed the Salon into a cozy colourful and fancy spot. And the attendees dressed in green wore wireless headphones as they listened to the 5-track Kenyan EP. Mambo za(ya?) Dunia is hands-down my favourite song, what's yours?

Saturday was the strangest day of all. Even though I barely slept 5 hours, I woke up feeling happy. And surprisingly energetic.

At 5pm, I was setting up Nem R’s Live Area show at The Salon. And what a show! It was our first time to experience L-Ness (aka Lioness), a legendary Kenyan hiphop emcee. And then Nem R stole the show with her witty bars and soulful vocals. Clebz on keys and Mansa Musa on the (Luo) drums complimented her tracks perfectly, creating an exceptional live acoustic hiphop experience.

And the highlight of the night? When hiphop legend Kitu Sewer stepped up on stage and gave the young Kenyan rapper her flowers right in front of everyone. That brought a tear to my eye. And after that performance, Monaja Mwenyewe gave me a free physical copy of his new hiphop album June 25th.

Hanging out with Nem R and Kitu Sewer like

By the fountain, I reflected with a friend why it had been such a magical day. And it's all because of one thing - acceptance. The previous night, I decided to accept life as it is - the good, the bad and the ugly. And it completely transformed my mood. Who knew acceptance was another key to happiness.

And as if the night couldn't get better, my Afrika to the world homies joined me by the fountain for some deep talk. At midnight, we head to Cosmic Cuts and took over the dancefloor. [MONRHEA] serenaded us with Kenyan bangers, Basthma brought the bass, and Unjust took it slow with lofi tunes.

Also, Shelter Ke felt homely with familiar faces and jaba juice everywhere. Reminded you of The Mist but more polished.

As we wait for The Mist makeover coming soon, check out these opportunities made for you.

TCHNO Takeover at The Mist

If it's the fourth Friday of the month, you know it's time for techno therapy. This time TCHNO is hosting international DJ producer KRETA all the way from Vienna Austria. And she's bringing hard techno in all shades alongside barasa Kenyan queens Merab and Hasira Hasara.

I'm personally looking forward to the panel discussion and live techno set by Ng’at Maler. The question of the night is, how hard and fast can you go on the dancefloor? 💃🏾

Hope to see you on these Nairobi streets soon. And remember the secret to happiness is acceptance. Because when you accept how your life currently is, that's when you can change it 😌

Until next time
Stay high on music
