Do you wanna be Free? ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿพ

Start here...

Hey music junkie,

When is the last time you felt truly free? Or you felt alive like never before? Sunday was it for me.

The previous day, we escaped our busy lives in Nairobi for the simple countryside life in Nkoroi. The excuse was Book Swap in The Park. And it felt good to be back!

From doing yoga in the garden to sitting around the bonfire to enjoying supper served in a calabash, we reconnected back to ourselves. And of course the Afrikan books we brought sparked conversations about where we've come from and where we are going.

Back to our roots, that's where.

The next day, we woke up to a sunny sky and beautiful birds singing in the trees. I took an extra nap in my tent because rest is a human right. Then joined my fellow Afreekans for an afternoon chill.

And that's where the magic happened.

We started with a stretching exercise and another session of yoga (on the grass). Then being the Spotify DJ of the day, I played my favourite tunes. Which immediately got us dancing wildly to the authentic African beats and rhythms. You would think we were in music festival in high school all over again.

I feel so alive! One guy shouted. And with the widest smile on my face, I could understand why. Letting loose under the blue sky without a care in the world was the definition of true freedom.

After savouring a taste of freedom, here are some ways you can enjoy it too. From new Kenyan music that could take you to heaven (on earth) to weekend events that will let you be young, wild and free!

Let's go ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

EP OF THE WEEK

Soul by Cheruu

From the first time I listened to this EP, I fell in love. It's soothing, soulful, and what you'd imagine peace to sound like.

Fun fact: Track 3 River ended up being the soundtrack of our Sunday chill at Sparrow's Creek Ecocamp. You'll love the water sounds, Cheruu's sweet voice and the heartwarming ooohs. It is definitely good for the Soul ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

EVENTS OF THE WEEK

TCHNO Takeover

If it's the fourth Friday of the month, you know it's TCHNO Takeover time! The last one was a special circle where we made music together and danced with candles in rememberance of our fallen soldiers.

This Friday, we'll discover different techno subgenres in a panel discussion, vibe to a live production set, and dance till the AM. I'm honestly curious to see the setup at The Mist because it's always unique during TCHNO. And of course learn something new about the underground music genre ๐Ÿ˜

Blankets and Wine July edition

If you're one of the people who was disappointed that B&W was postponed, today is your lucky day. Because Blankets is finally happening this Sunday!

Expect exceptional live performances by Kenya's greats Yaba, Sanaipei, Nikita Kering', Dagoz Nomads, Bensoul, Savara and Samthing Soweto from SA. And don't miss your favourite Kenyan DJs and Dipa Konnection playing on the Onja Onja stage. It's definitely going to be a sherehe of the season ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿพ

Remember to connect to peace, release and be free. All you have to do is close your eyes and feel the music seeping into your soul. Now that is your ticket to freedom.

Until next time,
Stay high on music
