Your weekly dose of fine Kenyan music ๐Ÿ’‰

And the coolest events happening in Nairobi

Hey music junkie,

What a crazy week has it been! Has it been the same for you? Or am I the only one juggling so many projects at the same time?

On a lighter note, life in Nairobi has been fun and eventful. Last weekend I attended the 10th session of Nairobi Dub Club at The Mall. And it was even better than I expected. With Roots Agenda and Daudi Dubs as the selectors of the night, we danced till 5 in the morning. And had the biggest crowd yet!

That night I also learnt the difference between reggae and dub music. Turns out dub isnโ€™t the grandfather of reggae, more like the cousin. If you'd like to discover the real roots of dub music, read my review on Instagram.

The Kenyan music scene has also been bursting with new projects left right and centre. In the last one week we've received at least 5 new EPs and albums (and those are the ones I know of). Stay tuned for a review of one of them plus the coolest events happening in Nairobi this week!

ALBUM OF THE WEEK

Soul'd Duets by Waithaka

Have you heard of Waithaka? You should because he's the legend behind some of our favourite Kenyan songs, like Shuga Mami by Ayrosh and Mwene Nyaga by Kwame Rigii.

And on Wednesday, the US-based Kenyan music producer released his fourth album. Which is a collection of soulful duets between fine Kenyan male and female musicians (and one American singer). The result, is pure Kenyan R&B magic!

EVENT OF THE WEEK

Coalescence at Unseen Nairobi

If you love experiencing unique and out-of-this-world performances, then you're in the right place. Because this Thursday, experimental Kenyan duo Air Conditioner will be hosting an audio-reactive installation with creative techie Natasha Khanyola. That basically means visuals will be reacting to the music they play.

Expect trippy visuals, enchanting sonics and plenty of music geeks at Unseen Nairobi. Basically a musical experience you've probably never seen before in Nairobi - or anywhere else.

Would you like to know what's happening in Nairobi on Friday, Saturday, or any other day of the week? You need to check out our Telegram channel that's dedicated to updating you on new events every single week. Join us here for free!

And if you'd like your event highlighted on this newsletter, hit me up. I'm all ears :)

Until next time,
Stay high on music
