What will you choose this July?

Here are your choices...

Hey music junkie,

How are you holding up? Are you resting and healing as much as you are fighting and protesting? It's called balance.

I'm super grateful for having a healing weekend after such an emotional week (weak?) From a team wellness circle which was so relaxing to an intimate candlelight vigil at TCHNO Circle. Candles are so trippy btw, have you ever stared at a flame for more than a minute?

And on Saturday night, I joined the international reggae day party by Nairobi Dub Club at The Mall. Where we skanked and skanked (that's dancing) to healing dub music until 6am. It was truly the music therapy session we needed πŸ•ΊπŸΎ

What's your intention for this July? Is it to get carried away by all the pain and frustration in the air? Or is it to rise above it and find your own power so that you can make a change in your country?

The choice is yours.

If you choose the latter, here are some empowering gifts for you.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK

Whispers of Power

In the beginning of June, I attended this event in Nairobi which was simply out of this world. It was a multidisciplinary show curated by Afrofusion musician Liboi, storyteller Wakio Mzenge and contemporary dancer Maulid Owino. But the unique fusion of live music, storytelling and dance wasn't even the trippy part.

Whispers of Power took us on an inner journey of overcoming our greatest fears which are usually our thoughts. And it was simply the most immersive event we have ever experienced πŸ™†πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

EVENTS OF THE WEEK

Kenyan Reggae Night 4

If you love reggae music like me, then this is the perfect event for you. Kenyan Reggae Night is back once again at The Mist, this time bringing the Revolution Sound to our ears.

Come experience revolutionary reggae music with Swahili dub queen Binti Afrika, MC Mic Templar, selector Zygy Zaga and friends this Friday night. Faya tunes that will make you skank all night long. And make you feel proud to be Kenyan πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ

Blankets and Wine July edition

For the second Blankets of 2024, we have a fresh new lineup (and hopefully clear skies). On the main stage, catch the Prince of Rhumbacane Yaba, the sweet songbirds Sanaipei and Nikita Kering’, the funky Dagoz Nomads, the naughty Bensoul and superstar Savara. And all the way from SA is Samthing Soweto of the hit song Akanamali by Sun El Musician, remember it?

But wait, there are more fire Kenyan acts on the Santuri-curated Onja Onja Stage from 2PM all the way till 2AM. And because its #SabaSaba, Blankets are offering a 50% discounted People's Ticket just for us πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

May you spend this July taking care of your wellbeing as much as fellow human beings. And remember not every fight is on the field, strategy is important too.

Oh and one last thing. If you're attending Blankets this Sunday, reply to this email and I'll send you a special countdown playlist πŸ˜‰

Until next time,
Stay high on music
